Tradies aim for gold in $8.3m upgrade

The Caringbah Tradies Club is set to be the focus of a major $8.3 million redevelopment project following its approval by Sutherland Shire Council recently.

The project will include an eye-catching gold façade and a new gym that will be an Anytime Fitness operation and open 24 hours. The current Anytime Fitness premises are located within the shopping strip along the Kingsway.

Caringbah Tradies have occupied the site of what was once home to the Caringbah RSL Club, since 2009. The development application approval, which was forthcoming with some conditions imposed, came despite initial concern by council and its architectural advisers over the use of a strong gold palette for the façade.

The club’s colour plans were defended by a statement that it was:

“based on the stratification and warm oxidised colours found in Sydney sandstone.”

Such development features are often included in a graphic design accompanying each application.

The gym is set to occupy the building’s first level with entry gained after hours by users via a key card. The open plan layout will also host an office, reception desk, bathrooms, change room and pram bay. Also proposed in the development application is that gym patrons have sole use of the existing balcony between the hours of 8am and 10:30pm.

A crèche, new kitchen and bistro dining facility will occupy the second floor while a function centre will remain on the third floor.

The redevelopment will also see many walls throughout the club demolished.
