Sutherland to get a new Entertainment Centre

It has been acknowledged by council and residents of Caringbah and other southern Sydney suburbs that the Sutherland Entertainment Centre is outdated and should be replaced.

According to Carmelo Pesce, a new centre should be constructed, in consultation with private investors, and without using ratepayer funds. NSW legislative changes have forced the Entertainment Centre land to be rezoned, pre-empting the drive to build a new centre.

Although residents have started a petition opposing the changes, Cr Pesce has ensured locals that council has no intention of taking the facility from the Sutherland Shire general public. He said:

“It is quite the opposite. We would like to work towards replacing it with a new centre, the council needs to look at how a better facility can be achieved.”

Cr Pesce hopes a resolution can be formed by working with a development firm. He would like to see a state-of-the-art entertainment precinct that can serve the growing needs of the shire into the future.

A recent committee meeting was staged in order to provide council with an entertainment centre briefing regarding income, necessary upgrades and community usage. A working party was formed and councillors were asked if they would like to be involved. In a positive reaction, approximately 90 per cent of councillors indicated they would be happy to be part of the working party.
