This year's performance will be the 45th event of its kind, but it comes with a twist. For the first time, the concert will be virtual, and by being screened online, it will open the door for a larger viewing audience than ever before.
Mayor of Sutherland Shire Steve Simpson said that planning for the annual concert was based around the wellbeing and health of residents, and making the event accessible in the comfort and safety of their own homes seemed the right avenue to take. He added:
“This year more than ever before we want to ensure our community feels connected and continue to celebrate special occasions as best we can.”
According to the mayor, the annual concert is an important celebration on the calendar of seniors across the shire, and this year’s event will be filled with great performances from many talented individuals, including dancing and songs from the Miranda and Engadine Musical Societies, as well as public school students at Sylvania Heights.
Major events such as this have often been advertised via community-based flyer printing campaigns.
Councillors will also provide an added bonus for elderly care residents in the local area by supplying baskets filled with Christmas cake. The concert will be screened on the council's website during the first seven days of December, and all residents are invited to watch.
