Players the winners after $2.7m netball court upgrade

Netball clubs in Caringbah and throughout the Sutherland Shire have welcomed a $2.7 million upgrade at popular Bellingara Netball Courts.

Included in the project nine newly-installed competition standard courts were added, together with additional lighting courtside and improved accessibility for spectators.

Mayor Carmelo Pesce said local netball clubs have been quick to try out the new facilities in time for the summer annual evening competition and added:

“The Sutherland Shire has always been home to a passionate and competitive local netball community and has produced such stars of the game as NSW Netball Hall of Fame inductees Lisa Beehag OAM, Vicki Kerr OAM and former Australian Diamond Selina Gilsenan."

The Mayor said the project's completion has provided a valuable stepping stone for the next generation of players and provided them with high standard playing surfaces and facilities, while also boosting the spectator experiences for the many loyal supporters of the sport.

Flyer printing campaigns by local clubs have often helped to boost spectator numbers at local sport fixtures including netball.

Upgrade highlights range from new fencing and seating to administration facility upgrades including to lighting and PA systems.

The Mayor said Council worked hand-in-hand with Sutherland Shire Netball Association to deliver the project which he is confident will do much to help the already popular game, grow further throughout the Shire in the years to come.
