Nominations open for multicultural heroes

Community members from Caringbah and across Sutherland Shire have an opportunity to recognise the valuable contributions made by locals towards the state's multicultural society by putting them forward for a Premier's Multicultural Community Medal.

Posthumous recognition is also possible, with submissions also welcome for the Multicultural Honour Roll.

Having been run for the past decade, the Government of NSW initiative has put the focus on the multicultural society and organisations, groups and individuals who have made significant contributions towards its growth and success, according to Premier of NSW Dominic Perrottet. He added:

“I believe it is important to give people the chance to acknowledge the amazing work in our multicultural communities and the profound difference they make in other people’s lives and their communities.”

He said the awards provided a chance to acknowledge and applaud amazing service while also giving those involved a big thank you.

The contributions touch many parts of the community, including the staging of major multicultural events which are often widely publicised and the focus of annual poster printing campaigns to spread awareness.

The awards offer twelve categories including the latest addition of the Community Languages Teacher Medal that puts the focus on innovative and outstanding language teachers who have been able to instil in students’ knowledge, plus a love of culture and language. Nominations are to be submitted by Friday, 18 November with winners announced at the 2023 Premier's Harmony Dinner.
