The move comes after a state government election promise in 2019 to establish the service for school students who were in need of it, which is now to be rolled out to public schools of Heathcote, Gymea and Cronulla.
Lee Evans, Eleni Petinos and Mark Speakman, MPs within Sutherland Shire, said in a combined statement that since 2019, there had already been 11,000 spaces created for students, made possible by a $120 million funding commitment from the government for the programme. Speakman added:
"This funding supports services through fee waivers, infrastructure funding and delivery of the new hubs, which are custom-designed modular buildings."
Residents are often made aware of new facilities such as the new care centres by targeted flyer printing campaigns to parents and community members.
According to Petinos, there are many families within Sutherland Shire that depend on services for after and before school care. She said the new hubs will ensure that all students who require the service will be able to access it in an easy and convenient manner.
The latest funding announcement for three more centres in the shire puts the government a step closer to achieving its commitment by the close of 2021, the MPs said.
