Local author's first novel available to buy

A Caringbah resident has fulfilled his dream of becoming a published novelist with the release of his first book.

Christopher Salmon recently completed his first novel, which is set

locally in the Sutherland Shire. The book, called Keepers of Light, follows the story of a 94-year-old man called Best Douglas whose doctor is trying to get him involved in a campaign to change the law on voluntary euthanasia.

Mr Salmon who has spent most of his life in the Sutherland Shire has also touched on some of the area’s history in the novel.

He made a pledge to finish the work in 2010 while he was completing a creative writing course at Sydney University. He had previously had shorter pieces such as magazine articles published, but most of his longer works including Books and screenplays remained unfinished.

He said the creative writing course boosted his passion for writing and helped him develop skills such as creating a strong narrative and making sure the details were right.

While not everyone will succeed as published author in the same way as Mr Salmon, keen writers can see their work in Print by asking a printing company to create a printed and bound version of their manuscript, even going so far as to design a cover for the book.

Keepers of Light is available locally at Berkelouw Bookstore at Cronulla Plaza.
