Grants initiative targets community services sector

Charities and not-for-profit organisations in Caringbah and across Sutherland Shire are set to benefit from grant funding of up to $10,000.

Wanting to support those hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, Sutherland Council will make $80,000 in grants available to help provide targeted support for the community's most vulnerable.

In a statement, Mayor of Sutherland Shire Steve Simpson described the work of the not-for-profit sector as invaluable, and he added:

“With the introduction of the COVID-19 Community Services Response Grant scheme, Council is hoping to enhance the ability of the many excellent service organisations that operate in our community to reach those who are most critically in need.”

Simpson said the council was already supporting other sectors, such as business, by suspending some charges and fees, as well as providing homeowners seeking renovation works with financial support to boost the trades sector.

These types of initiatives can help a range of businesses, in addition to their normal marketing strategies, such as the distribution of Business Cards.

The latest grants package is aimed at boosting the various service organisations ability to give emergency care packs and food to Shire residents, especially where demand has increased due to the pandemic.

The mayor said he is keen to receive applications from entities such as this within the community so that the council can help them continue their vital work. Further information is available on the Sutherland Shire website.
