Fundraiser bike ride to pass through Caringbah

Keen female cyclists from Caringbah can challenge their riding skills and help a charitable cause next month with the Gear Up Girl ride.

The ride is designed to encourage more women to take up cycling as a form of exercise and become more confident riders. It also supports the Heart Foundation, which raises awareness of heart disease and encourages people to lead healthier lifestyles, and riders can choose to fundraise for the foundation as part of their participation.

There are three routes to choose from on the day. The shortest is 20 kilometres and starts and finishes at Cronulla, with the route taking riders out to Kurnell. The two longer routes are 40 kilometres and 60 kilometres. Both of these courses start at Sydney Olympic Park and follow a safe route to Cronulla, including the Cooks River cycleway.

Girls over the age of 10 can take part in the event, while younger children can accompany a rider in a trailer or bike seat.

Although the ride is only for women, men can support the riders along the route and could use banner printing to share a message of encouragement to their friends and family members taking part. Both longer routes pass through Caringbah on Captain Cook Drive, so supporters will not have far to go.

The ride takes place on Sunday, March 8th. To register, visit the Gear Up Girl website.
