Sutherland Shire’s council recently put in the equipment at the popular Sunnyside Reserve, as part of a new initiative to get people to consider regular exercise.
The new gym was set up with money from a local government grants programme, which contributed $21,000, and from the Sutherland Shire Council, which added $12,000.
Three pieces have been installed at the reserve, allowing users to undertake basic stretching, weight resistance exercises and cardio. They are designed especially with older residents in mind, and the facility was officially opened as part of the Shire’s Seniors Week last month.
Printing services could be used to create Signs at each station, showing examples of the possible exercises and helping users to be safe on the equipment.
Sutherland Shire Mayor Kent Johns said keeping active was important for older residents. He commented:
“Keeping an active body is crucial if you want an active mind and regular exercise is one of the most powerful ways that we can improve our health. This equipment has been designed to provide benefit to a number of age groups.”
The outdoor gym falls within a wider council initiative that aims to provide activities for residents of different ages at its parks.Get a Free Quote for Signs
