Focused on the `connected to nature' theme, the contest is set to inspire participants of all ages to explore the connection between the environment and the local community, while vying for a share of $10,000 worth of prizes.
Mayor of Sutherland Shire, Carmelo Pesce, said entrants would have a wide choice when it came to filming the area's natural wonders and significant locations, with everything from nature reserves, parks and pristine beaches to a host of top heritage-listed sites.
The diversity, he said, was great, and added:
“From action to adventure, documentaries to drama – there are so many avenues to capture our connections with nature through film.”
He said the contest also gave those taking part a chance to have their creative works celebrated and recognised publicly.
Projects such as this have often included eye-catching graphic design work which is a skill that can be in high demand throughout the business community.
The Mayor said all films are required to have at least half of the footage taken locally within the shire and/or the person making the film must reside in the area. Entries are to be submitted by 7 November. This will be followed on 24 November with a special festive awards and film screening night.
