Meeting the needs of local businesses and residents in the future is the objective, according to Planning Director for Sutherland Shire Andrew Carfield, which is why the council is strongly urging business operators, land owners and residents to let them know what features they consider should be incorporated into major town centres such as Miranda and Caringbah.
Carfield described the centres as being significant community areas that allow people to interact with each other and have access to shopping, entertainment and transport services, while also providing spaces for events and community celebrations, adding:
“As Sutherland Shire continues to grow and change, so will the role of our major local centres. The health and vitality of these centres is critical for the local economy and for the convenience and lifestyle of our residents.”
Carfield added that a planned approach to revitalising the centres was important, and so too was the process involved in gathering input from community members.
Flyer printing campaigns and media coverage have often helped to spread the word about opportunities such as this, which seek community feedback on important local issues or developments.
