Mayor of Sutherland Shire, Carmelo Pesce said Council is inviting residents to express their views on the way four key recreation areas in the area could be used in years to come to best meet locals future needs.
He said Council was embarking on the process of putting together four masterplan projects which will reflect the aspirations and insights of community members and provide a future direction for loved community open spaces such as Box Road Reserve, Kareela Reserve, The Ridge Sporting Complex and the Tonkin Oval and Gunnamatta Park Precinct. The Mayor added:
“By engaging with residents on the initial phase in developing these masterplans, Council can better understand how and why our community values using these spaces and where we can improve these areas to increase community satisfaction."
Flyer printing campaigns have often been rolled out to help boost community awareness of opportunities such as this to provide views on the community's future.
The Cronulla-based Gunnamatta Park is heritage-listed and currently offers visitors everything from netted tidal baths, a jetty, and sheltered beach to an amphitheatre, playground, picnic tables and pavilion. Meanwhile, Barden Ridge's major Sporting Complex is the shire's leading sporting precinct. Residents have until 31 August, 2022 to submit feedback on all four sites.
