Five playgrounds close to Caringbah and within Sutherland Shire are set to receive upgrades, with work scheduled to be completed by June.
The upgrades will be undertaken at Sylvania's Canberra Road Oval, Sutherland's Glencoe Street Reserve, Bangor's Billa Road Oval, Heathcote's Veno Street Reserve and Bundeena Oval in Bundeena.
A learn-to-ride track is to be installed as part of the upgrade at Canberra Road Oval, along with new play apparatus, a new picnic setting and seating, plus a new open space and lawn area, while the playground softfall will also be updated for improved amenity and accessibility.
Meanwhile, the reserve in Glencoe Street is to be rejuvenated by the construction of a new play space close to the current playground, as well as the upgrade of the softfall with mulch and synthetic grass.
New play equipment to suit a range of abilities and ages will be included in upgrade work on the oval at Billa Road, as well as a new softfall surface and the introduction of a bin, water bubbler and nature-themed elements in the play area. Veno Street Reserve is set to receive play equipment, a fence and new landscaping.
According to a council spokesperson, Bundeena Oval is set to receive new play elements for toddlers, including a dinky track linked to the playground, play surf shop, play hut and mini tot swing. Making people aware of facilities such as these has often been carried out via flyer printing campaigns aimed at local residents.
