Sutherland Entertainment Centre is set to bring back the sounds of the 70s as it celebrates 40 years since its establishment.
Residents from throughout
the Sutherland Shire, including Caringbah, New South Wales, are on the doorstep of the centre which has appeared on Postcards as a major local landmark many times during the past four decades.
Mayor Carmelo Pesce said to celebrate the centre’s 40th birthday a one-off performance has been commissioned that will encompass the most loved classic rock songs that were playing on the radio back in 1976 when the multi-purpose venue first opened its doors.
She said celebrating by staging a concert was relevant because there would be few residents that hadn’t attended some type of entertainment performance at the venue, which has also hosted professional and community theatre and concerts, product launches, dinners, presentations and conferences.
The centre has also hosted school formals and presentations, weddings and 40 Mayoral Debutante Charity Balls, she said.
The 40th birthday celebration concert will be conducted under the baton of Musical Director Joseph Calderazzo and will include performances by Carmel Mesiti, Tim Moxey, Nicky Kurta, Mitch Anderson, Simon Meli and an all-star band.
Attendees are being encouraged to dress in the spirit of the 70s era and be in the running for the best 1976 costume award.
The special Classic Rock of 1976 concert will be held on June 25.
