The area around the Sutherland Hospital in Caringbah is set for redevelopment, with the first applications submitted for council approval.
The St George and Sutherland Shire Leader newspaper has reported that two applications had been presented for the recently created health services and housing zone around Kingsway, valued at around $44m.
One application is listed for medical consulting rooms on the ground floor, along with 89 apartments on the upper five storeys with a roof top garden and underground parking, while the second proposal includes 42 apartments and medical rooms at street level. Both developments would replace existing houses in the area.
The area was designated a mixed use zone by the Sutherland Shire Council last year to create a medical precinct. The changes allow for fewer restrictions on height and floor space, but projects must include medical facilities such as consulting rooms or community health centres.
The applications' approvals are still pending, but once any construction is started in the area, the council or the developers could use printing services to create information boards or Posters to keep locals and users of the area informed of changes.
