Projects set to benefit range from $1.4m for new resources at the Shire's eight libraries to $41m to continue renewal works at Sutherland Entertainment Centre.
Mayor of Sutherland Shire Steve Simpson said the budget gained the green light after extensive consultation and scrutiny to ensure ratepayers received value-for-money. He added:
“This is a budget which ensures we can continue to provide the range of essential services our community rely on while also delivering major infrastructure works which will service the needs of our community well into the future.”
The mayor said an extra $900,000 had been included for use in the construction programme of footways in an effort to encourage more locals to get outside and be active, while $172,000 will go towards works at the Sylvania Playing Fields in Box Road.
Flyer printing campaigns have often been rolled out to alert residents to major works such as these being carried out in the area.
Simpson said that throughout the process of drafting the documents and the following consultation with the community, the main aim had been to balance the interests and needs of local groups to deliver a good result for all.
The mayor added that by adopting the 2021-22 Delivery Programme and Operational Plan, Sutherland Shire Council was delivering for current and future residents.
