Call for volunteers in Sutherland Shire

Volunteering will be in the spotlight in the Sutherland Shire later this month, with the Southern Sydney Volunteer Expo a chance for Caringbah residents to find out how they can get involved in the local community.

Printing services will no doubt have been used to

create leaflets giving more detail about each of the volunteer organisations and how people can help.

Among the groups taking part in the event will be the Rural Fire Services. Superintendent Andrew Pinfold from the New South Wales Rural Fire Services said that with bushfire season approaching the organisation was looking for more volunteers. He said:

“Coming into bushfire season we can always use volunteers to help us at one of our thirteen rural fire stations.

"Helping your community to remain safe from fire is one of the most rewarding experiences, as many of our brave volunteers know that they can be the last stop between saving lives and property."

Other organisations on show will include the State Emergency Service, the council’s Bushcare groups, and local surf lifesaving clubs.

There are around 28,000 volunteers around the Sutherland Shire with more than 900 organisations, but more are always needed.

The Expo will be held at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Thursday October 16th and is open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. For more information, visit the Volunteer Expo website.
