Big programme of events planned for Australia Day

Caringbah residents will be among many who will be able to enjoy the Sutherland Shire festivities planned for Australia Day 2023.

A huge programme will include everything from cultural displays presented by the area's Aboriginal elders and cinema screenings in the great outdoors to live performances by local and international Australian artists.

The expansive array of events, which incorporate this year's theme ‘Reflect, Respect, Celebrate’, promises to provide something for all residents, according to Mayor of Sutherland Carmelo Pesce, who added:

“For over 20 years, Sutherland Shire Council has delivered an entertaining line-up of events to local residents as a means of bringing our community together to celebrate what it means to be Australian.”

Previous Australia Day concerts have proven extremely popular with music fans, attracting around 35,000 people and the mayor is confident 2023 will continue the trend, with award-winning Sheppard set to headline the performances alongside popular vocalist Samantha Jade and locally-based Jess and Matt and Caravana Sun.

Artists performing at events such as this are often featured in poster printing campaigns for performances across Australia. Events on Australia Day will follow a local Aboriginal elders’ sunset cultural ceremony at Burnum Burnum Sanctuary.

The mayor said the meaning of Australia Day can be something different for each individual and Council has put together the 2023 programme with the aim to give all residents a chance to engage and be part of the special occasion.
