Caringbah residents wishing to mark the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings and Anzac Day have two options to choose from this year.
Locals can attend a dawn service at the war memorial at the corner of Kingsway and Port Hacking Road, which will be preceded by a short march by service personnel. It is being organised by the Caringbah sub-branch of the Returned and Services League.
The main commemoration will take place in nearby Cronulla, where the Sutherland Shire Council has organised a special day of events with the Cronulla RSL sub-branch.
A dawn service will also take place here, with the march leaving at 5.15am to a temporary Cenotaph at Cronulla Beach.
Following the service, the documentary Gallipoli from Above will be shown before official proceedings take place, and then the Dawn Service being held in Gallipoli will be broadcast live.
Music performances by local artist Luke O’Shea and Australian rock band 1927 will also form part of the event.
Families in attendance may like to take medals awarded to ancestors with them, and include them in a photograph from the event. This could be reproduced by a professional printing company for display, perhaps alongside a photo of the original medal holder.
