Art lovers from Caringbah are in for a treat next month with two high profile exhibitions coming to Sydney.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales is showing a large exhibition of American work. It is the biggest display of its kind ever to be shown in Australia.
The exhibit, which has been given the title ‘America: painting a nation’, includes work from a number of American museums which has been loaned to the New South Wales gallery. The gallery is the only venue to be showing the exhibition in Australia.
The show includes work by well-known artists such as Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock, and will feature more than 80 pieces.
At the Museum of Contemporary Art, there will be a collection of work by peace activist and musician Yoko Ono. The exhibition includes sculptures, films and writing. A number of the pieces displayed are interactive and give viewers the chance to get involved with the work. Visitors will, for example, be able to stamp a world map and write messages of love.
Galleries in Sydney often work with printing companies to produce literature for those who browse the pieces and brochure printing may come in handy this time round.
The two exhibitions are being staged as part of the Sydney International Art Series for 2013 and fans who would like to see both shows can buy a special discounted double pass.
‘America: painting a nation’ is open from Friday November 8 and the Yoko Ono exhibition is open from Friday November 15.
