Special holiday guest pays visit to Coast Guard families in Warwick

Coast Guard families stationed in Warwick recently had a visit from a holiday celebrity who took some time out from his busy schedule, and utilized an unconventional mode of transportation to make the trip to see them.

Santa ditched his sleigh and reindeer and chose to take to the sky in a helicopter instead. He also brought along a load of gifts for the children who have parents in the Coast Guard and who came to see him.

The visit was made possible by the Friends of Flying Santa, Inc., which is a not-for-profit organization that organizes holiday flights each year for different lighthouses all across New England. According to Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrew Barresi, this is a well-loved tradition for the families of members who are serving with the Civil Engineering Unit. It also shows appreciation for the efforts they put in all year round. A printer can create special Holiday Cards with a thank you message in them that can be included in each gift. They can even have a theme that makes them perfect for such an occasion.

The Civil Engineering Unit engages in a variety of activities that help to support the Coast Guard and makes sure that its investments are protected. It also makes sure that coastal installations are functional, safe and cost effective, and ensures customer input is maximized through the Shore Station Maintenance Program.
