At the Fete in Providence, the first-place prize for 2018 was recently awarded to the team from Warwick Ice Cream. Along with its most popular flavors, the team debuted Moonstone Beach Vanilla, a new offering.
The annual ice cream competition was organized by Jim Nellis, owner of RI Food Fights. The people who work at Fete provided some assistance and offered the space, which was air-conditioned.
There were about 550 attendees at the event who were able to sample frozen treats from eight vendors, including Sundaes’s Lincoln Creamery, Rogues Island Kitchen & Bar, Moo Moo Ice Cream, and the victorious Warwick Ice Cream. Flavors ranged from key lime pie and bacon and corn, to traditional favorites of vanilla, chocolate, and coffee.
The crowd was attracted to Warwick Ice Cream and their new flavor. Moonstone Beach Vanilla was named after the beach which the United States Fish and Wildlife Service closed in 1987 as it was concerned about its location close to where the endangered Piping Plover nest. The artwork which Warwick Ice Cream created for the flavor includes some piping plovers who seem to be warning people not to intrude on their beach.
Also, at the event was freed iced coffee, music and a special performance by the Chifferobe Tropigals.
