ArtWRKD will host two events in April in honor of Poetry Month at its branch in Newtown and The Historic Newtown Theatre.
Those interested in celebrating poetry month with an accomplished poet and filmmaker can attend an activity at The Historic Newtown Theatre. Guests will get to watch Fruitlands 1843 with the director, Vasiliki Katsarou. Mark Bezanson, a local film professor, will give an introduction to the event.
The movie is about a short-lived utopian community. Attendees can ask Katsarou questions about the movie after the screening during a Q&A session.
Katsarou will also host an in-person poetry workshop at ArtWRKD where people can practice writing poems about Fruitlands 1843 and the concept of utopias. No writing experience is necessary to attend the program. Those who are experienced poem writers can receive expert editing advice at the workshop. People can purchase Katsarou’s poetry book at the workshop and during the film screening.
The movie-watching experience with Katsarou and Bezanson will be held on Thursday, April 25, at 7:30pm. Tickets to the film will cost $25 per person.
The workshop with Katsarou will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm and will cost $150 per person. The price will include refreshments. Art centers that host similar activities can use flyer printing to share these events with others.
