Newtown Historic Association is preparing for its 49th Annual Market Day this October.
Market Day features a combination of vendors, entertainment and educational historical activities. Vendors will include crafters, artisans, food trucks and colonial craft demonstrators. These demonstrations will include candle making, which will start at noon in the Boone Garden, and wool spinning, basket making and chair caning, which will take place along Court Street.
There will be live music in two locations. Bill Dooley will play near the Court Inn from 12 pm to 4 pm, and Dockside Band will play in the Research Center’s parking lot from 11 am to 3 pm. Hayrides, which require a fee, will leave from the corner of Centre and Congress Streets. Court Inn will be open for tours and conversations with historical interpreters. The Court Inn, also known as the Half Moon Inn, is one of the oldest buildings in Newtown and served as an essential gathering place when Newtown was the county seat.
The event is free to attend, with some activities requiring a participation fee. It is fully volunteer-run, and all proceeds will support Newtown Historic Association. Local organizations often use flyer printing services to promote their events.
Newtown Market Day will be on Saturday, October 3, from 10 am to 4 pm. The rain date will be the following day, Sunday, October 4.
