The Cuyahoga County Public Library will be celebrating the Lunar New Year at its North Olmsted branch in February.
The Lunar New Year Concert is a program where people can celebrate the start of the Year of the Tiger with a traditional Chinese orchestra. The Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble will be performing several pieces at the event and will tell a story behind each song. Many traditional instruments will be described to the audience and utilized during the performance, including the pipa, erhu, and dizi. The group will have an interactive finale where audience members of any age can come on stage to try the percussion instruments.
The Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble is a band consisting of six veteran musicians. The group started in 2008 and has presented many workshops to the community. Their performances also incorporate other Forms of traditional art, such as calligraphy, tai chi, and tea ceremonies.
