Top graduates from Colerain High receive honors
Graduation is coming up for seniors across the country, and group of 10 students at Colerain High School has gone above and beyond requirements.
The 10 students will graduate with the highest honors (known as ‘summa cum laude’), on June 11. Each of them has a weighted grade point average (GPA) of at least 5.55. The students earned at least 24 credits during their high school career and never received a quarter grade lower than a B.
While the students will graduate with their class in the middle of June, the school recognized their achievements at the annual Academic Awards ceremony on May 23. Schools often use stationery printers to create certificates recognizing the hard work of high achieving students like these.
Each of the top students not only excelled academically, but were also involved in extracurricular and community activities. One student, Christina Haffey, has a GPA of 5.6981. Along with her academic achievements, she ran varsity track for four years, as well as two years of varsity cross-country and two years of jay-vee soccer. Along with sports, Haffey was involved in the Girl Scouts and served as a volunteer at a local museum.
Ryan Koenig is another top student who managed to juggle academics and athletics. During his high school career, he participated in tennis, baseball, and basketball. Koenig also played in the school band and was a member of the honor society.
Each of the top 10 students plans on going to college, studying subjects ranging from environmental science to finance.
