Recycling simplified in Colerain
Starting this summer, residents in Colerain will be able to recycle items that usually get tossed away.
The township has partnered with Simple Recycling and will begin to offer curbside pickup of items such as housewares, clothing, and other textiles.
According to a statement from Simple Recycling, around 15% of items that get thrown out into the residential waste stream are appliances, furniture, durables, and clothing. The vast majority (80%) of textiles do not get donated or recycled.
The program is not only free for residents, but will also help Colerain Township earn money. For every pound Simple Recycling collects, it will pay the township one cent, or $20 per ton. Residents who participate in the program will receive orange bags to fill up and put on the curb. Simple's collection schedule will follow the same schedule as garbage pickup.
Townships can use flyers to introduce people to new programs and give them the information they need to get involved.
Colerain is not the only township with which Simple Recycling will be working; the company also recently inked a deal in Cincinnati and already operates in a number of areas of Texas, Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan, and other parts of Ohio.
No firm date has been set for the start of the Colerain program yet, but it is scheduled to begin sometime this summer.
