Colerain shifts date for recycling focus

To accommodate a rise in October weddings in Colerain while still protecting the environment, the township has decided to move its annual recycling day to September this year.

June has long been the most popular month for weddings, in Colerain, but that honor now belongs to October according to Keven Schwartzhoff, the director of Colerain Township Public Works, who recently spoke to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The goal of the date change was to avoid blocking the parking lot at the community center. To let people know about the change in date, the township could use a local printing company to make up flyers and posters.

A number of items will be accepted during the annual events. People can bring up to four rubber tires free of charge. After four, the township will charge $2 per standard car tires, $6 per truck tire, and $15 for each tractor tire. Residents are also welcome to bring unwanted air conditioners, freezers, and refrigerators to the event, but there is a $15 charge per item to remove them.

Other items that can be recycled at the event include paper and cardboard, car batteries, metal, motor oil, computer equipment, mattresses, and televisions. Organizers are requesting no types of paint, adhesives, farm and garden products, cleaners, medicines, or plastic grocery bags, however.

Set for Saturday, September 20, the event will take place from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the township's administration complex and community center. People do need to show proof of residency before dropping items off.
