Colerain school district to introduce robots to help students learn
Northwest Local School District in Colerain plans on using the $263,000 grant is scheduled to receive from Ohio's Straight A Fund to invest in C-STEM, an intervention program that combines computer science technology, math and engineering. The goal of C-STEM is to improve middle school student's math achievement.
C-STEM would replace the school district's current intervention program in math. Using it, students will be able to directly apply the concepts they learn in class to an actual application. The hops is that the students will enjoy using the robots so much they will begin to enjoy math class.
School districts could use digital copying to let parents know of the changes in the curriculum and how those changes will benefit students
The current plan is to start using C-STEM in the upcoming academic year. The class will be an elective to replace math intervention for sixth through eighth graders at each of the three middle schools in the district. If the program succeeds, the schools will use C-STEM in additional math classes in the coming years.
The state's Straight A Fund received 141 applications for just 23 grants, awarding a total of $14.8 million. The recommended applications are scheduled for final approval by the Ohio Controlling Board on July 25, so less than two weeks from now.
