Colerain residents invited to take up a new hobby for 2016
Residents of Colerain who are hoping to improve their lives by learning a new skill this year are invited to participated in a wood carving class, offered by Great Parks of Hamilton County.
The parks organization will host two classes in wood carving near the end of January. Each class will meet twice for about three hours. To promote the classes, the organization might consider using flyers and mailing services to reach out to people who have participated in its events in the past.
The classes will cover the basics of knife safety, and instructors will demonstrate how to make several common knife cuts before launching into the actual carving. The goal of the class is for each student to create a shelf goose from American basswood.
Class sessions are offered on January 21 and January 28 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, or on January 23 and January 30 from 9:00 am until noon and cost $14 each. Members of the Cincinnati Carvers Guild will be teaching the classes, which are set to take place at the Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve on Colerain Avenue.
Students who are unable to finish carving their goose during the class sessions can contact the instructors for additional help outside of class time. People who find that they love wood carving are invited to arrange for private training after the class is over.
