Colerain presentations to help consumers stay safe

Colerain locals can attend a few virtual classes from the Cincinnati Public Library to learn about avoiding scams.

“Shop Smart: Know Your Rights” is a virtual presentation that teaches audience members about fraud and how to protect themselves from scam artists. A representative from The Ohio Attorney General's Office will share tips for avoiding scams based on the most common calls they receive yearly. The lesson will also go over Ohio's consumer laws.

There will also be another online program titled “Real or a Scam? How to Keep Yourself from Falling Victim”. The two-part series will define identity theft and how people can protect themselves from stolen identities. Guests will discover the types of ongoing scams they may encounter. The program is suitable for both adults and seniors.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office has several divisions that fight crime against consumers, such as Charitable Law, Consumer Protection, Crime Victim Services, and Employment Law. The current attorney general of Ohio is Dave Yost, a graduate of The Ohio State University and Capital University.

The “Shop Smart: Know Your Rights” presentation will be on Monday, March 18th from 10:00am to 11:00am. The two-part series on scams and identity theft will occur on Monday, April 1st and Monday, April 8th from 10:00am to 11:00am. All courses are free for the public to join. Libraries in charge of online presentations like this may advertise the webinars to patrons with poster printing.
