Colerain library to teach virtual creative writing course
Teens in Colerain can attend an online multi-weekend workshop offered by the Cincinnati Public Library.
The Cincinnati Public Library will be teaming up with the organization WordPlay Cincy to create a workshop that teaches teens about creative writing and activism. The course will show students the connections between expression and social justice. There will be a series of six workshops offered online, though guests can attend as many as they wish. The class will be intended for those who are between 13 and 18 years of age.
WordPlay is a non-profit group that aims to create safe and inclusive spaces where young people can learn about reading, writing, and storytelling. The organization helps students uncover personal narratives while also allowing their voices to be heard and valued.
The group offers several creative programs for kids, including Scriptober, Writes of Passage, and Puppets Telling Stories. All community programs from WordPlay are free to the public. Groups that provide educational programming like this can use poster printing to raise their event’s visibility.
The first Writing as Activism workshop will be held next Wednesday, September 30 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Classes will continue every Wednesday until November 4. Those interested in participating in the creative writing course must register in advance. People who want to support WordPlay’s programming can donate on the organization’s website.
