Author to give writing workshop in Colerain

The Writer-in-Residence at the Groesbeck Public Library in Colerain will offer a writing workshop in August.

Those interested in learning how to write from an accomplished author can attend the Writer-in-Residence Workshop led by Manuel Iris. The theme of the program is We Need to Talk About It: Home. During the session, participants will read pieces themed around the concept of home, including Where I Am and The House on Mango Street. Attendees will then write a short poem or piece of prose about the topic of home. Students will think about who their home is and what home means to them.

Manuel Iris is a skilled poet and essayist who won the Ohioana Reader's Choice Book Award in 2022 for his collection of poems titled The Parting Present / Lo Que Se IrĂ¡. He now hosts the Cincinnati Public Library's podcast and contributes pieces for the organization's blog. Iris also earned the Rodulfo Figueroa Regional Award of Poetry in 2014. He has graduated from several colleges, including the Autonomous University of the Yucatan and New Mexico State University.

The writing workshop will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Registration is limited, and the activity is intended for an adult audience. Those who organize community workshops like this can bring personalized business cards to share with attendees.
