Nassau County, which Westbury is part of, is seeking to recognize two senior citizens who have demonstrated a concern for human services and who have been deeply involved with their community.
The county is currently accepting nominations for the 2016 Senior Citizen of the Year award.
Only a certain number of people qualify for the nomination, and the officials behind awards like this often use printing services to spell out the requirements.
A nominee needs to be at least 60 years old and must reside in Nassau County. They cannot be employed by the organization submitting the nomination, unless they work for that group as a volunteer. For a nomination to be official, it must be submitted on an official application form.
Seniors who have been nominated in previous years can be nominated again, but those who have received the award in past years may not be nominated. Either an individual or an organization may nominate someone, and a group of judges from the Office for the Aging's advisory council will be reviewing each application. The judges will pick the two senior citizens who they deem to have made the biggest contributions to the lives of others.
Application Forms can be emailed to the Office for the Aging or sent in via mail. The deadline for nomination is next Tuesday, Februay 16.
