Westbury waits for Spotted Owl adventure race

Residents of Westbury and the rest of Long Island have the opportunity to get muddy later this month, as the Long Island Adventure Race, code named ‘Spotted Owl’, takes place.

The race goes beyond what a typical 5k offers, as it also features mud pits and obstacles. The Spotted Owl is appropriate for anybody above the age of eight, whatever their fitness level. Runners have the opportunity to compete in a timed race, or can run at their own pace and complete the race without the pressures of the stopwatch.

Participants also have the option of running on their own or in teams of three. The race is open to groups, although it is recommended that those of more than three people register as individuals for the same time slot. Runners can choose their race time at registration, with the first race begins at 9:00 am. The last run begins at 1:00 pm and is not timed.

The organizers of the race can make use of nearby printing services in preparation. Race packets will no doubt need to be prepared for each registered runner, as well Signs for parking and certificates for the winners.

Registration is $79 for adults and $59 for children between the ages of 8 and 12. Registration for a three-person team is $229. People can sign up online or mail in their registration Forms. The race takes place at the former site of the Grumman Corporation in Calverton, the largest grassland on Long Island.
