Westbury Summer Arts Series kicks off

The 2017 summer arts and concert series is well underway in Westbury.

Westbury Arts, previously known as the Greater Westbury Council for the Arts, began their series at the start of June. The organization hosted a fundraiser featuring a wine and cheese tasting, led by Ben Pardo, a member of the group.

Nearly 70 people attended the event, the proceeds of which will fund arts and concert programming throughout the summer.

Speaking to the Westbury Times, Julie Lyon, the president of Westbury Arts, noted that the program has been attracting more people each year. She anticipates that the series will be a good one this summer.

Arts organizations can use postcard printing to let previous attendees and patrons know about upcoming events.

A number of programs are expected to return to the summer series again this year, including a film festival and performances by the North Shore Pops Orchestra.

The next scheduled event takes place on June 29 and is a Mardi Gras Night featuring the HooDoo Loungers. The band is a nine-piece outfit that celebrates the history, spirit, rhythm and sounds of New Orleans.

Their performance will be combined with a paint night. Attendees can bring their own paint and supplies or purchase it there and paint along with the music. The fee for supplies is $20 for non-members and $15 for members.

Other scheduled events include a Tango Night on July 6, Reggae and Soul Night on July 13 and Opera Night on July 20.
