Nearly 15 years ago, the village of Westbury got a facelift. Now, the business improvement district (BID) and the village are providing grant money to give local business owners a chance to revitalize their facades.
The village has set aside $600,000 for a Downtown Revitalizaiton Initiative grant program. Businesses that receive funds from the grant can use the money to fix up either interior or the exterior of their properties.
The new grant program is slightly different to the one offered in 2003. The initial program was only for exterior improvements. With the new funding, business owners can also make improvements to the insides of their buildings.
BIDs that are offering grant money to local business owners can use brochure printing to provide area companies with the full details and requirements of the grants.
Under the Westbury program, the BID will offer a match of up to 50% of what companies spend on improving the facades, rear of the building, or the interiors of their buildings. There's a $25,000 cap per company.
Business owners will have a considerable amount of freedom when it comes to choosing the improvements they make.
To get the word out about the grants, the BID plans on holding to information sessions. The first took place on February 15, and the second is scheduled for a week tomorrow, February 27, at the Village Hall.
