As part of its 35th anniversary celebration, the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support program recognized the hard work and commitment of public relations consultant Lyn Dobrin, a resident of Westbury.
Dobrin has been working with the hotline and support program since the beginning. Back in 1980, when the program began, she was working in PR at Adelphi University's School of Social Work. At the start, her job was to get the word out about the program. She has continued to spread the word about the hotline and program ever since, most likely using a variety of printing service and marketing.
Speaking to the Westbury Times, Dobrin stated that "breast cancer was a secret 35 years ago." Over the years, she and other involved with the Breast Cancer Program have worked hard to bring attention to the cancer, to push for more research, and to improve legislation. Today, Dobrin notes that it is a subject that people are a lot more willing to talk about, and that women like to discuss how they are coping with others who are affected by the disease.
Along with presenting an award to Dobrin during the Celebration of Survivorship event on October 13, the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program also recognized the work of Senator Kemp Hannon, who been a strong supporter of the program.
