Westbury museum prepares to treat moms to special day

Westbury families that want to treat mom to a special experience may wish to check out one on offer right in their home community.

Garvies Point is prepping for a weekend of fun for Mother’s Day, and all ages are welcome to treat their mom to a day of fun. The function will have a theme of “birds and blossoms” and will give the public a chance to view nature as it wakes up for another spring.

The attendees will be able to browse through the gardens that can be found at the site, and many of the birds will be back for the summer. They will also be invited to stroll along the woodland paths to see the wildflowers, with binoculars provided. A crafting station will be set up where the kids can make a pottery memento of the day, and the film selection for the function will be “First Flower.”

Hosting an activity like this encourages community members to spend time together as a family. Printed field guides of the various birds and plants that can be found on site will make it easier for the guests to identify what they see, and these can be ordered from local Print shops.

Garvies Point Museum will be welcoming families for its salute to mom on May 8. The contact person for the function can be reached at vnatale@nassaucountyny.gov.
