What's Happening in Westbury, NY…

Westbury kids invited to explore basics of floral design

An activity to be held in Old Westbury Gardens will teach kids about flowers and how they can be used to create a pretty display.

The Gardens’ Horticultural Director, Maura Brush, will be the facilitator for a 45-minute activity that will introduce young learners to some of the basics of flower arranging. It will be held at the same time and venue as a floral design class for adults, so both parents and kids will be able to learn and then use their new knowledge to craft displays at home together.

The facilitator will teach how to prepare arrangements using an assortment of flowers and greenery, and while they work, the kids will learn some facts about each species they use. They will find out how to keep their creation looking great, and the admission price for the occasion also includes the materials needed for the project.

Learning a new skill can be a lot of fun for kids, and it gives them a chance to develop an interest they can enjoy throughout their lives. Instruction sheets and other materials can be sourced from local stationery printers.

Old Westbury Gardens will be offering its Kids Floral Design workshop on Saturday, May 21, and it will begin at 10:00 am sharp. Tickets are available for $30 each.
