Westbury households offered safe hazardous waste disposal day

Westbury High School is set to serve as the venue for a day that will make sure hazardous household waste is properly disposed of.

The school will be hosting an instalment of the Stop Throwing out Pollutants (STOP) initiative, and it will give locals an opportunity to get rid of some unwanted items that should be kept out of the regular trash for curbside pickup. It will be open to the public for six hours, and it will be one of several events scheduled for the upcoming year.

The program used brochure printing to create marketing materials. These were sent out to area households to explain what materials will and won't be accepted, and also how they should be packaged. The items and materials dropped off will be disposed of in a way that is environmentally friendly, and electronic waste, lithium batteries, and swimming pool chemicals are just a small sample of what will be collected.

The listing for the activity explained that unneeded medications will not be accepted. Instead, these should be taken to a local “shed the meds” event hosted by the local police.

This chance for Westbury to do its part for the environment will run from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 29. Its web listing will have the most current information.
