Westbury freshman heads to national lacrosse classic

While most high schoolers will be using the summer break to take it easy, Abigail Selhorn, a freshman at Carle Place High School, near Westbury, will be honing her lacrosse skills at the Brine National Lacrosse Classic.

Participating in the classic will give Selhorn the opportunity to train with other top level female lacrosse players from all over the US. The program lasts for four days and takes place in Richmond, VA, where it is in its ninth year. The Classic runs from July 19 to 22.

Along with intense practice and competition, the National Lacrosse Classic offers players the chance to play before coaches from top college lacrosse teams. Selhorn told the Westbury Times:
“My goal is to get looks by college coaches and get more experience outside my little town playing with the best of the best.”

Selhorn has played lacrosse since the age of four and with the same girls’ group for about 12 years. Along with playing for the varsity team at her high school since the eighth grade, she also plays with Icon Lacrosse, a local team. She earned an All-County Honorable Mention in Lacrosse this year.

After high school, her goal is keep playing in college. Her dream school is the University of North Carolina, a Division I school. Its women's lacrosse team took the 2016 NCAA National Championship title.
