A Westbury event planned with car lovers in mind has been given the green light to go ahead this summer.
The day is being presented to the local area thanks to Storing Island Stangs and Beyond the Badge. Titled “Hotrods for Heroes,” the organizers hope the function will help to put the stigma that often surrounds mental illness in the rear-view mirror. It will raise awareness about many of the issues related to PTSD and mental health. Registrations, which are $15, are now being accepted.
The function is held in honor of NYPD officer Michael Geraldi, who worked hard to make the public aware of the toll mental illness can take on first responders. It will be held at the Wantagh Train Station, and the first 150 vehicle owners to sign up to take part will receive a dash plaque and other Corporate Gifts. Spectators will be admitted free of charge, but donations to the cause will be appreciated by the host of the celebration.
As well as the car show, the function will include food trucks, a DJ and a touch-a-truck station. The planners explained that they are hoping to gain permission to have several first responders on site for the crowd to meet, and all Covid prevention protocols in place at the time will be followed.
Hotrods for Heroes will be rolling into the local area on Sunday, July 11.
