Westbury brings in the new season

As summer turns into fall, that means the return of fall fairs and festivals to celebrate the change of seasons, and people turned out in droves to attend the yearly Business Improvement District Street Fair and Fall Festival in Westbury last Saturday.

Although the festival was interrupted by rain midway through the day, the Westbury Business Improvement District declared it a “very successful fair” on Facebook.

While this year's fair featured all the standards of a fall festival - including craft vendors, food booths, and live music - it also featured a new twist in the form of a Pop-Up Art Gallery. This was put together by the Greater Westbury Council for the Arts and the BID. It featured the work of local artists and was housed in the former Westbury Pharmacy at 247 Post Avenue.

A number of local organizations and businesses made appearances, including the Last Hope Animal Rescue, which brought animals eligible for adoption. The Long Island Philharmonic was also there to talk about its upcoming performances.

The Balloon Bust Raffle, a popular feature at the fair last year, returned again. A prize was placed inside a number of inflated balloons, such as concert tickets, restaurant Gift Certificates, and cash. Tickets for the raffle were $10 and every balloon had a prize.

To build upon this success, organizers of the festival and fair could with local printing companies to advertise the 2015 event.
