To many, summer nights are meant for stargazing. Westbury residents who would like to learn more about the cosmos and planets, comets and other celestial bodies will be able to do so as part of an event set to be hosted by the Amateur Observers Society of New York.
Sagamore Hill will provide an observation site with relatively low light levels, which can make it easier to spot objects in the nighttime sky. A presentation will help the participants to identify what they see, and there will be telescopes set up for the registrants to use.
The planners have made arrangements to host one of these evenings in June, July, August, and September, and they are free of charge. All ages are encouraged to attend, and the attendees are asked to bring flashlights, a chair to sit on and some refreshments. As the air may be chilly, it is also recommended that the stargazers bring along a blanket to wrap up in.
This sort of event can help to instill an interest in astronomy, and can offer a relaxing introduction to the hobby. Sky maps and other informational materials can be supplied to an event like this by a printing services provider.
The dates for these events will be June 7, July 20, August 30, and September 21. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, which will be the location for these activities, can be found at 20 Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay.
