During the upcoming election, residents of Carle Place, near Westbury, will have an important decision to make.
The school district's budget for the 2018-2019 academic year is up for a vote.
Although the budget for the upcoming school year is higher than this year's, the increase is only 0.33%. The school district's budget has the lowest increase from one year to the next out of all the districts in the county.
School districts that will have programs and budgets on the primary ballot can use brochure printing to let voters know what issues are up for vote and what the budget will go towards.
All told, the budget is $49,440,424 and includes current programs offered to Carle Place students. The new budget also expands some programs; for example, it allows for the hiring of an additional staff member in a middle school Life Skills program.
A few other propositions will also be on the ballot on May 15. One proposition concerns the use of funding to upgrade security. Also up for vote will be who will fill three vacant seats on the board of education.
Two of the people elected to the board of education will serve three-year terms while the third will serve in the place of the late president. That term expires at the end of June 2020. The two people who receive the most votes will fill the three-year positions while the person who gets the third most votes will take the seat that expires in 2020.
