High school near Westbury shows off new facility

Carle Place Middle/High School, near Westbury, kicked off the month of March with a grand unveiling of a new auditorium.

During an assembly, students, teachers, and other members of the community were introduced to the new space. Students got to relax in the soft, green seats and enjoy the advanced sound and lighting systems recently installed in the room. Among the highlights of the newly renovated space are a bright, emerald green curtain on stage, new carpeting, LED lightings, and backlit wall panels. The ceiling features acoustical clouds, which help improve the sound in the space. There is also an open sound booth.

Although much about the space is new, it still retains a connection to the school's history. It is officially named the Joseph C. Burke auditorium, after a long serving principal. The school could invest in a banner declaring the name of the auditorium to all who enter it.

The auditorium gets a lot of use by the school, as it is where inductions and ceremonies take place. It is also where the theater students put on their productions. Matt Cassone, a theater student, stated that he was very excited to get to perform in plays and musicals in the new space.

Funding for the renovation came from the school's capital reserve. Speaking about the project, Dave Flatley, the superintendent, noted that it was “long overdue” and community support had helped it come to fruition.
