Classic car fans gather in Westbury

On a Wednesday in August, nearly dozen classic cars were parked in a lot in Westbury.

The vehicles were driven there by their owners, who were members of a recently formed classic car meetup group.

The event was put together by Tom Verni, a resident Westbury and a classic car enthusiast. Verni created the meetup to bring fans of classic automobiles together, and also to attract more people to Westbury and thereby create more business for local companies. He got the idea from a similar club, which meets in Oyster Bay.

During the event, fans can talk about their classic cars with others and proudly showcase their vehicles. Reflecting on the first meetup, Verni told the Westbury Times:

"It was very well received. Everyone who came voiced an interest to come back and spread the word and bring friends."

Verni could spread the word about future events using flyer printing, posting Flyers around town and at local businesses. He noted that it might take some time before the club has a very large turnout, since it is so new, but he hopes that once the similar club in Oyster Bay wraps up for the season after Labor Day, more people will come to the events in Westbury.

The classic car meetups are set to take place on Wednesday evenings, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, until the end of the fall.
