Cake Boss sets up shop in Westbury
A rainy day was not enough to keep devoted fans away from the grand opening of the newest location of Carlo's Bakery, run by Buddy Valastro, also known as the ‘Cake Boss’ from the TLC series of the same name.
People from around Long Island turned up for the big event on May 9, waiting in line in the rain for the grand opening and ribbon cutting. The ceremony was overseen by the Cake Boss himself, who opened the doors to the new bakery to the public for the first time by announcing "Hello, everyone, we're happy to be here."
Although the Westbury location is new, it is actually the ninth Carlo's Bakery to open in the country. Valastro chose Long Island for the newest location because many customers make the trek from the island to his bakery in New Jersey. Asked about the new bakery, Valastro stated:
Valastro and company can use flyer printing and postcards to spread the word of the new bakery to people in the area. Chad Durkin, who was a contestant in another one of Valastro's shows, ‘The Next Great Baker’, will be managing the daily operations at the new shop. Although Valastro will not be running the shop, he does expect to drop in on a regular basis, as he likes to be a hands-on owner.
